Returns Overview
Most non-final sale merchandise can be returned in new, unused condition within 180 days of original purchase. Please see categories below for specific return eligibility and terms.
To start a return, choose one of these convenient options:
- In-Store: Bring items and original receipt back to any Von Maur store
- By Mail: Use pre-paid return label from online order packaging
Upon receiving your returned goods, we will review condition and determine next steps – such as refund, even exchange or merchandise credit. Allow at least 1-2 billing cycles for returned funds to process back to original payment.

1. Regular Priced Items
Eligible for return? YES
Condition guidelines: Unworn in new condition with all tags still attached.
Timeframe: 180 days from original purchase date.
Return Outcomes: Choice of original payment refund, even merchandise exchange or merchandise credit.
2. Clearance & Sale Items
Eligible for return? Case by case basis
Condition guidelines: Same as regular priced items. No re-attaching tags/labels.
Timeframe: Typically 14-30 days at store manager discretion
Return Outcomes: Store credit or even exchange only unless defective.
3. Fine Jewelry
Eligible for return? Select items
Condition guidelines: Unworn in pristine new condition. No custom designs.
Timeframe: 30 days with dated proof of purchase
Return Outcomes: Typically merchandise credit only.
4. Furniture & Rugs
Eligible for return? Case by case basis
Condition guidelines: Undamaged, in re-sellable condition
Timeframe: Within 30 days pending inspection
Return Outcomes: Store credit, possible refunds for quality defects
5. Intimates, Swimwear & Hosiery

Online Orders Return Policy
Online-Exclusive merchandise may have distinct return criteria from in-store items at manager discretion. Always check your packing slip for item-specific labels, terms and instructions.
For online apparel, shoes, accessories and goods returned in new condition with tags attached, we happily offer refunds within 180 days back to your original payment – no store credit required!

How To Return Online Orders
Print a pre-paid return shipping label from your Order History details on vonmaurstore.com. Affix the label on package exterior and schedule free package pickup from your residence with carrier. No post office trips needed!
You may also return online orders in-person at your local Von Maur store. Bring your receipt or lookup order via phone number on file.
Note: Customers are responsible for return shipping costs on final sale or excluded items that are ineligible for prepaid labels.
Exchanges Overview
If you prefer to swap an item for a different size, color, style, etc. instead of returning, Von Maur happily offers even exchanges.
Even exchanges mean same merchandise dollar value – no exchanges allowed for higher priced items unless paying the price difference.
Follow the same return methods above. Once received and inspected, we will process exchanges for available in-stock merchandise. If unavailable, store credit will be issued.
Exchanges are typically authorized within the same standard return periods as above pending manager approval. Clearance or special event purchases may have shorter exchange windows at manager discretion.
Site-Wide Return & Exchange Exclusions
The following categories are return ineligible SITE-WIDE except where defective. All sales final for exclusions below:
- Final sale merchandise
- Monogrammed, customized or engraved items -assembled furniture pieces
- Contract, commercial or bulk purchases
- Special order kiosk items not in stock
- Gift cards, debit cards or credit vouchers
- Carrier contract phones
- Collectible coins & currency
- Perishable goods (ie. Food, plants)
- Hazardous materials
- Used or worn merchandise
We thoroughly inspect all returns and reserve right to deny refund, exchange or credit if condition, time limits or exclusions do not meet guidelines.
Receipts and Time Limits
Always keep your receipts! Original dated sales receipt or order paperwork is required for returns and exchanges.
We can also lookup purchases made with your Von Maur Card digitally for convenience. Possession of merchandise alone or shipping confirmation emails do not constitute valid proof of purchase for returns.
Quality Inspection
To prevent fraud and ensure re-sale integrity, all returns are inspected before processing refunds or exchanges. We reserve right to deny returns for used, worn or damaged merchandise as defined below:
Examples Include:
- Makeup, skincare, hair products with broken seals/safety seals
- Bottoms, intimates, swimwear with hygiene lining removed
- Any stains, soiling, tears, snags or other visible wear
- Shoes with dirt, debris, visible wear on soles or scuff marks
- Wrinkling, makeup/deodorant marks, odors or hair on clothing
- Fabric pulls, snags, loose buttons, broken zippers, hem unraveling
- Opened food containers or plants, broken stems
- Used gift sets with missing items or opened envelopes
- Fine jewelry with damaged stones/settings

Receiving Store Credit
If original form of payment cannot be refunded per guidelines above, Von Maur will issue a merchandise credit. Store credit has no fees, no expiration date and is redeemable at ALL Von Maur locations and vonmaurstore.com with your state ID.
You will receive your credit confirmation by email typically within 3 business days after the return is processed at our warehouse. If not received promptly, contact Customer Care with your order details. Store Pickup purchases must return back to their original store location to redeem credit.
We reserve the right to deny returns, refunds or exchanges that do not meet policy criteria at manager discretion. Von Maur also reserves the right to revise Return/Exchange guidelines without advance notice. Please check our website at the time of your purchase/return for the most up-to-date policy.
