The Talented Mr. Roto is leaving The Worldwide Leader.

Matthew Berry, who joined ESPN in 2007 and became their Senior Fantasy Sports Analyst surprised fans everywhere by announcing that, after 15 years, he was leaving ESPN.

It comes as a shock as another fantasy football season — in which fans would read his takes, picks, listen to his podcasts and devour his Thursday “Love/Hate” columns that were about more than just who to start and sit for the week — is coming soon.

ESPN released its own statement (see below) saying that Berry “expressed a desire to explore new opportunities beyond ESPN” and that the network “agreed to support it.”

I’m really excited about the future but there will plenty of time to talk about that before the season. For now, I just want to take some time to reflect and celebrate an incredible 15 years. Thanks for the support. I love you all.

Matthew Berry is an absolute legend who could not have been nicer to me when I met him when I was an annoying sophom*ore in college. To say I wish him well and continued success is an understatement!

I started following Berry in college (I graduated in 2008). I’ve followed nearly his entire tenure. Enjoyed his work. Believe he’s a great person – and would be an awesome hang, which is how it felt listening to his podcasts. I’ll miss him. https://t.co/r2SxQO2j9Y
