On Your First Visit to St. Marks

What Can I Expect to Find?

Yes, our worship services are traditional, but our members, the activities we sponsor and the events we host fill the spectrum in a loving, supporting environment where people feel like they belong.
As a church we are a diverse group of individuals united for the common goal of knowing God and growing closer to Him through Jesus Christ.

As a family of believers, we support one another through joys and pain, challenges and successes.

As students, we work together and individually in the lifelong process of learning how to best reflect the love, service and devotion of Christ.

Over more than 200 years, thousands of people have belonged to this church and, in so doing, discovered in deep and meaningful ways how they belong to God.

When Should I Arrive?

Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m.
Main Sunday worship begins at 11 a.m.
Communion is offered during the 11 a.m. Worship on the first Sunday of each month. During the rest of the month, Communion is offered at a special 9:15 a.m. service. As a United Methodist church, St. Marks practices an "open table" by providing Communion to everyone.

What Should I Wear?

Dress however you are comfortable. Some of our members wear dresses and suits, while others prefer to come to church in more casual attire.

What Should I Bring?

The only thing people should bring to St. Marks when they come is an open heart and open ears to hear God?s word. Guests and members of St. Marks are welcome to bring a Bible to Sunday worship if they choose but they are not necessary. The church has Bibles available in every pew and the text for each week?s reading, as well as the readings for the following week, are printed in the bulletin.

Where Can I Find St. Marks?

St. Marks is located in downtown Charleston at the intersection of Washington and Dickinson streets, across the street from the main post office. Ample parking is available behind the church, as well as in a lot across Dickinson Street. Street parking is also available on Washington and Dickinson streets.

Is Child Care is Available?

St. Marks has a nursery available for young children if parents wish to use it. However, young children and infants are welcome to stay in the sanctuary during Sunday worship and participate in the special Children?s Moment that takes place during the service.

News and Notes:

Disciple I is a one year (32-week) study of the whole Bible.  It begins September 13.  If you want to join the class, you need to contact the office and get your book.  You will need to complete the reading for the first assignment by September 12.  A limited number of spaces are available.  Don't delay.  It is probably the best Bible survey course available.  Ask anyone who has taken the course.
